Steppe Etiquette: Essential Customs and Handy Phrases

Respecting ancient nomadic traditions guarantees a warm welcome.
Ger Etiquette: When entering a nomadic ger, never step on the wooden threshold—doing so is considered bad luck. Walk around the central support pillars rather than passing between them.

Accepting Hospitality: When your host offers a cup of milk tea or a bowl of food, always accept it with your right hand, supported gently at the elbow by your left hand. Take at least a small sip or bite to show gratitude.

Handy Phrases: Mongolian is the official language. While your private guide will handle all translations, learning a few basic words goes a long way with locals:
Sain baina uu? – Hello
Bayarlala – Thank you
Zugeer zugeer – You're welcome / No problem
Bayartai – Goodbye
