Hidden Historical & Cultural Monuments

The valleys surrounding Terelj and the Khan Khentii wilderness are deeply saturated with ancient Mongolian history, making your horse trek a literal ride through time:

  • Gunjiin Sum (The Princess Monastery): Hidden deep within the pine forests of the park lies the ruins of an 18th-century Buddhist monastery. It was constructed by a Mongolian lord in memory of his beloved wife, a Manchu princess. Today, the serene stone walls stand quietly wrapped by the wilderness.

  • Ariyabal Meditation Temple: Suspended precariously on a scenic hillside in Terelj, this tranquil Buddhist temple requires a peaceful mountain walk up a flight of stairs decorated with spiritual proverbs.

  • Chinggis Khaan Statue Complex: Located on the historic steppe on your overland van path toward Terelj, this titanic 40-meter-tall stainless steel equestrian statue stands as the largest of its kind globally, marking the symbolic threshold of the Great Khan's empire.
